UV
Codebreaker
UV were a one-album wonder on the BLC label. Now the three former members are off making music individually, most notably Pat Berdysz, who records futurepop industrial under the Encoder moniker. I guess what rescues UV from the mediocrity heap, if anything, is the conviction with which the lyrics are sung. It put me in mind of the early work of Informätik--distorted vocals that you could nevertheless make sense of. (Although maybe you could put that down to the fact that in both cases, the songwriters and singers are all native English speakers.)
Otherwise what we have here is a pretty generic industrial CD. I own a lot of these, and I've started to wonder whether I need to own more. But I can't seem to stop myself from buying them. Maybe I need to hire a quality control assistant?

Hey there! Bruno here (aka Pat Berdysz). Although not much of a compliment on the critique, I am flattered that our album was mentioned among other electronic legends. I look back now (wow, has it really been 3 years?) and wish I had the time to re-produce it to a higher audio-quality (it was my first attempt at a real audio project). Hopefully you will or have listened to the latest Encoder work and find it more appealing. Take Care.
Hi, Bruno, and thanks for your comment. Yeah, I guess I might have been a little critical--hope that wasn't too painful to read. Then again, the blog was meant to record my personal (and highly idiosyncratic) impressions and not necessarily to be a "review" of any of the discs I was listening to on a given day. I'm glad you're still recording, and I look forward to hearing more of your work.
